    Young Mothers Program

The Young Mothers Program (YMP) was established in 2010 to serve girls in foster care who become pregnant or are new mothers and need residential and support services.

The goal of this program is to support the young women and their children as they work to develop a solid foundation to become good parents and self-sufficient adults. The services the girls receive include medical, family, educational, vocational, social, mental health counseling, youth mentoring and parenting. We have programmatic alliances with Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Vassar Clinic, the Teen Parent Program at Family Services, Astor’s Early Head Start program and Grace Smith House. Children’s Home staff gently teach and guide the young women as they learn to care for their newborns and themselves. Staff also work with the young mothers to help them toward their education or job training goals, preparing them to face the challenges of being self-supporting.

Girls in this program can move into the Supervised Independent Living/Transitional Living Program when they are ready for the next level of independence.
